Tank Job or Trap Game? Sixers in Shambles Despite Wiz Record

The Washington Wizards arrive in Philly to face the Philadelphia 76ers in what should be an easy W for the home team, but nothing feels "easy" with the Sixers' injury report right now. The Wiz, bless their hearts, are a disaster this season, but they’ve actually snagged two wins in their last three outings, including a shocking one over Milwaukee. Seriously, they beat the Bucks without their own young stud Alex Sarr, which tells you two things: they’ve got some fight, and the Bucks are probably phoning it in sometimes. For Washington, guys like CJ McCollum and the recently returned Marvin Bagley III stepped up huge against the Bucks, showing they can score in bunches when they get hot. They’ve still got the league’s worst defense, though, it’s just awful.

Philly, meanwhile, is limping into this one, despite a respectable 10-9 record that Tyrese Maxey has somehow willed them to. Maxey is playing out of his mind, putting up 32.8 points and 7.6 assists a night, looking like a legit superstar in the making. He’s the engine, the heartbeat, the whole dang car right now.

The problem? The Sixers are dealing with a brutal, brutal injury list. Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP, is still out nursing that knee. Paul George is questionable with knee issues and back tightness, which is never a good sign for a guy with his history. Kelly Oubre Jr. is sidelined. Even Andre Drummond is questionable with a knee contusion. This isn't just a few bench guys, this is their core rotation that's been decimated. The Sixers have to rely on their depth, guys like Quentin Grimes, who’s been solid, but they are absolutely thin in the frontcourt without Embiid and potentially Drummond.

Philly is desperate to stop a four-game home losing skid, of all things. You gotta wonder if the locker room is getting testy with so many key guys constantly watching from the bench. It's a huge test of the "Next Man Up" mentality, but there are only so many men left.

Betting Picks & Predictions

The spread for this one is massive, sitting around -12.5 for the Sixers, with Philly owning a -699 moneyline. That’s a huge number, especially considering the Sixers’ injury chaos and the Wizards’ weird little streak of competence. Sure, the Sixers are 9-9-1 against the spread on the year, but they’ve covered in fewer home games than road games. Washington has gone over the total in nearly two-thirds of their games, which makes sense because their defense is swiss cheese.

With Embiid and potentially Drummond out, Philly’s interior defense is super soft. That opens the door for Bagley to have a big night. The Sixers still have Maxey and their overall talent is miles better, even the banged-up version. They should win, but covering 12.5 points without your MVP and potentially your key free-agent signing and your backup center? That’s asking a lot. Give me the Wizards to hang around just enough. Prediction: Sixers win, but Washington beats the big number.
