Commanders vs. Fins in Madrid: Dan Quinn Pulls the Plug and the Secondary Shocker

There's a massive vibe shift in Washington. After getting absolutely waxed by the Lions, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn made the call Monday: he's taking over defensive play-calling. Joe Whitt Jr., the DC, is still technically around, but Quinn, the former Seahawks "Legion of Boom" maestro, is stepping in to fix this train wreck.

And it is a wreck. Washington's defense is nearly dead last in the league, giving up almost 260 yards through the air every game. Quinn's done this before in Atlanta, trying to spark something, but with key defensive line pieces gone and a secondary that can't cover a twin-size bed, it feels desperate. Now they have to fly to Madrid to face the Dolphins. Good luck with that jet lag, D-unit.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, are 3-point favorites with a 47 Over/Under, which feels like a decent number considering the Fins' lightning-fast offense. But the real story out of Miami's Week 10 beatdown of the Bills? The secondary’s absolute masterclass against Josh Allen. That was one of the biggest surprises of the week.

Allen usually torches them, putting up monster numbers, but this time? Without starting corners Kader Kohou and Rasul Douglas, Miami held him and that Buffalo passing game to just 13 points. A huge part of that was rookie CB JuJu Brents, who was a waiver claim and got his first start. He was targeted five times and gave up a grand total of 12 passing yards. A 47.9 passer rating allowed; that's lockdown stuff. If Brents is for real, that's a massive, long-term win for Miami's defense.

The Commanders' side has more bad news, too: wideout Treylon Burks, who just joined and was a small bright spot, had finger surgery Monday and isn't even making the trip to Spain. No Burks, no Jayden Daniels at QB. This is a tough ask for interim QB Marcus Mariota, especially with a defense already on high alert after Quinn's move. Miami’s defense, suddenly buoyed by that incredible performance against Allen, should feast on a short-handed, travel-worn Commanders squad. The storyline is a defensive head coach trying to fix his team mid-flight, against an offense that’s explosive and a secondary that just found its teeth. Bet on the Fins to make a statement in Europe.
