Monday Night Football - Dolphins vs. Jets Overview and Betting Picks
AFC East Rivalries Collide as Dolphins, Winless Jets Look to Score Revenge
An AFC East showdown goes live tonight at Hard Rock Stadium as the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets, both basketcases with 0-3 records, desperately look for their initial victory this season during Monday Night Football. The game will be a war of attrition between two sides aiming to turn their season around after the early losses.
The Jets will get quarterback Justin Fields back, who has come out of concussion protocol after sitting Week 3. He's a big addition to a New York offense that cannot seem to get any consistency.
But the Jets' defense has been hurt badly, as linebackers Quincy Williams and Marcelino McCrary-Ball were recently shipped off to injured reserve. Cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and linebacker Jermaine Johnson have also been scratched for tonight, as running back Kene Nwangwu is also out. In the midst of this, there has also been speculation about a possible trade of running back Breece Hall, although nothing has come to fruition.
On the flip side, the Dolphins struggle as well, chiefly on the defensive flip of the yard, which has been strangely permeable so far this season. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has also taken the criticism for the Dolphins' lackluster offense.
In a significant piece of good news for Miami, standout wideout Tyreek Hill is set to play after missing the last game for personal reasons. His electrifying playmaker skills will be important to a Dolphins offense looking to strike a spark. Cornerbacks Storm Duck and Jason Marshall Jr. will sit this game out, as their counterpart Ethan Bonner is questionable.
As both sides crave a win to rescue their seasons, the primetime meeting this evening will be a contentious divisional battle. With both teams hungry for a victory to salvage their seasons, tonight's primetime showdown is set to be a hard-fought divisional contest. The performance of the returning Fields against a struggling Dolphins defense, and the ability of Tagovailoa and Hill to exploit a depleted Jets secondary, will be the key matchups to watch.
Even though they're the moneyline underdogs in this game, at +125, I'm still leaning toward the Jets pulling out the win. The Fins haven't been able to keep things together and are not instilling a lot of confidence. It's also easy to see the game going over the 44.5 line, although both of these teams are always full of surprises.
