Jacksonville Jaguars vs Los Angeles Rams - Week 7 NFL Betting Picks and Predictions
The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) are looking to make a journey across the pond to London for a Week 7 contest with the Los Angeles Rams (4-2) to help wash out the nasty aftertaste of a surprising home loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Jaguars offense had soared in Week 5 with the thrilling win over the Kansas City Chiefs, but sputtered in a loss to Seattle, a scenario the Jaguars can ill afford to experience with a rugged Rams defense.
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense will be required to be operating on all cylinders. Any area to watch with Lawrence's game is his desire to take the legs. Following the loss to the Seahawks, Lawrence had discussed the value of mobility to help extend plays as well as to keep the defense honest. He will be required to use all that he has to take on the Rams defensive front that can produce explosive pressure.
The Rams, though, are putting together a very quality season in stealth mode. Matthew Stafford, who recently moved ahead of Dan Marino to top the most passing yards of all-time as a starter, plays neater football that is devoid of miscues. Stafford has now got 61,493 yards, and Marino ended the 1999 football season with 61,361 yards at the end of his retirement.
The defense has also been a top-shelf unit, as well. They've just finished overpowering the Baltimore Ravens and will look to continue that momentum across the pond.
This intercontinental showdown brings together two squads with realistic postseason hopes. The most important matchup will be the Jaguars' front line offense vs. the Rams pass rush. Should Jacksonville be able to give Lawrence time to throw, they possess the arms to score points. However, should the Rams be able to set the pace, it might be a long day to be had in Jacksonville. This contest could easily be foreshadowing a coming attraction to a potential postseason matchup sometime in the future.
The Jaguars' young core has shone. Third-year linebacker Devin Lloyd flipped the switch on the Chiefs game with a dazzling 99-yard interception return touchdown, an NFL records book best for a linebacker. And do-everything rookie Travis Hunter, the Heisman-winning two-way menace, has already made his presence known with acrobatic catches and sturdy defense.
They've had an additional week to rest and regroup, so Jacksonville should be reinvigorated and possibly receive some injured players back (they had missed pass rusher Travon Walker, among others, since prior to the bye). The confidence within the team is repercussions high – as Lawrence noted, “showing up on a big stage does say something," and now the team will encounter yet another big stage beneath the Wembley arch.
Despite the extra time to rest up, the Jags aren't getting a lot of support from oddsmakers. The line is close, but the Rams are still a moneyline favorite at -150. Still, they've done well across the pond. Jacksonville are 6-5 in the UK, and that includes 4 wins at Wembley. Will they repeat? There's a very good chance of it.
