Cleveland Browns Vs. New York Jets Betting Predictions Picks and Parlays - NFL Week 10
The Tommy Rees Experiment: Browns Ditch Play-Caller Against the High-Flying Jets
Buckle up — this one could be a classic, or it could crash and burn in the first quarter. The Cleveland Browns limp out of their bye week sitting at 2–6 to take on the New York Jets, and it’s safe to say head coach Kevin Stefanski’s patience has worn thin. Yesterday’s headline made that clear: offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will be calling plays for the Jets in Week 10. Yep, you read that right. Stefanski’s handing over the controls and, by the looks of it, scrapping his own offensive blueprint.
The results speak for themselves. Their offense is among the worst in history. They’re at the bottom of every team with respect to total offensive yards. No team is scoring fewer points. It is a total crisis situation. Giving Rees more control over the offense is just a hope against hope to get whatever spark they can at this point. The future of rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who is under intense pressure to perform as is the tradition with every rookie, rests with a new play-caller, who is still just a kid himself.
But on the other side of town, the Jets find themselves on a completely different roll. How could it be forgotten just how ugly the 0-7 deficit had been? It wasn't until the team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 26 that they attained their first victory of the year. This is a huge morale builder because it is a gutcheck to prove to everyone that they have not given up on their new head coach in Aaron Glenn.
The Jets just sent cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the trade deadline, getting 2 first-round picks in return. This means they'll face the Browns without one of their best assets.
They'll also be without one of their defensive pillars. The Jets’ defensive backfield suffered a devastating blow on Monday when it was confirmed that safety Andre Cisco is finished for the season with a tear to his pec. On the bright side, it seems that top wide receiver Garrett Wilson is returning to practice this week. This is welcome news for their rookie quarterback because it is a game-changer to have their best offensive option back.
This game seems like something of a crossroads for both teams. Will the Browns finally be able to overcome their own ineptness on offense with Rees at the helm? Or will the returning force of wideout Garrett Wilson's play be too much for the team to overcome in the second half?
The drama is certainly real here.
With so many questions, it's no surprise that the line is so tight. The Jets are only 2-point favorites in what will most likely be a low-scoring affair.
