Celtics’ Cake Walk? Wizards’ Historically Bad D-Fence!

Look, let’s not mince words: tonight's Wizards vs. Celtics matchup is already a wrap, and everyone knows it. The Celtics are favored by a ridiculous 12.5 point spread, with  moneyline odds of -650, which basically means they’d have to suffer a major blackout to lose this thing. Why so lopsided? It all boils down to the fact that the Washington Wizards’ defense is an absolute dumpster fire.

The Wizards have had one of the historically worst starts to a season in terms of points allowed per game, and that’s not an exaggeration. After just seven games, they’re bleeding 127 points per contest! Only the winless Nets are worse. This isn't a new problem either, which is the scariest part. They finished last year with the league's worst defense, too. 

They literally allowed 770+ points in their first six games, matching the 2023 Wizards as the only two teams to do that since 1990. That's a legacy you do not want. It doesn't matter that Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George are putting up decent numbers; if you let the other team score at will, you’re just running uphill with a ton of bricks.

In Boston, although they have their own issues in terms of stuff happening in their own team with a record of 3-5, they remain favorites regardless because Jayson Tatum is down for a bit with that Achilles problem. Jaylen Brown is taking up the mantle, scoring 26.8 points per game regularly, while they have enough firepower in terms of scoring from Payton Pritchard and Derrick White. In all honesty, Boston doesn’t need to be much of an offense, which is a good thing because they're 28th in scoring.

They just have to make an appearance and let a lack of defensive effort and ability take care of the rest. This game is less about Boston's brilliance and more about Washington's ability to stop a nosebleed. Expect a massive blowout, and that 12.5-point spread? It might not be high enough.
