This glossary of the language of poker is intended to be useful for those who wish to play at Internet Poker rooms.
All-in - Play it all / Subtract
Bet on one hand all the chips that you have left. The player cannot add more money from his pocket if he runs out of chips in the middle of a hand. If bets continue after a player goes all-in, a separate Jackpot is created in which he does not participate (in such cases the player is said to be "subtracted").

Small initial bet that all players must place before the start of a hand. In Texas Hold'em, Blind bets are usually placed instead of Before. In some tournaments, after a certain level, all players contribute to the pot with an Ante, which, like the Blinds, increases from time to time.
Bad beat

Bankroll
The amount of money a player has to use in poker.
Bet
In a betting turn, the action of placing the first.
Big bet
In limit Hold'em, the amount that is wagered in the last two betting rounds.
Big blind
Mandatory bet that the player sitting two places to the left of the Dealer must make in each hand. It also refers to the position that player occupies.
Blank
In community card poker variants, a blank is a card that is unlikely to help any player when it comes out.
Bluff
Betting without having a play made and therefore with no chance of winning the hand if another player calls the bet.
Board
The five community cards in Hold'em or Omaha.
Button
Round piece that indicates the position of the dealer.
Buy-in
Exchange money for chips before sitting down at a poker table. In tournaments the buy-in is the price that the entry costs.
Call
Match the bet or bets that other players have made. After the last bet on a hand, Call is said.
Calling Station
Player who almost always calls (calls), rarely Folds (folds) and only Raises (raises) when he has a great play.
Cash game
A game in which money is bet on each hand. The term is used to differentiate these games from tournaments.
Check
Refrain from betting when the player's turn has not yet raised the pot. He has the option to Call or Raise if someone bets behind him.
Chip
Small, disc-shaped piece used to represent money and balance a game.
Community Cards
In Hold'em, Omaha and other variants of poker, the cards that are exposed in the center of the table and that all players can use to make their play.
Connectors
Two hole cards of consecutive values, such as 8-9 or 4-5. They are desirable because they have a higher probability of forming a ladder.
Dead money
Player who pays his entry into a tournament and has no real chance of winning a prize. By extension, any inexperienced player is said to "give away" his money when he sits at a table.
Dealer
Player from whose position the cards are dealt.
Disconnect Protection
In online poker, some tables offer protection for the player in the event that he loses connection during the course of a hand; his hand is all-in and he is entitled to win the pot that had formed up to the time he was disconnected.
Dominated Hand
A hand is dominated when it shares a card of the same rank with another hand and has a lower Kicker. For example, AQ is dominated by AK.
Draw
Have a play that requires a card to complete. Example: ladder project.

Amount expected to be won on average with one play.

In Texas Hold'em and Omaha, the fifth community card.
Fish/Sucker – Primo
Player who almost always loses. He goes to many hands with little chance of winning.
Flop
In Hold'em and Omaha, the first three community cards. They are discovered at the same time.
Flush – Color
Five cards of the same suit. Beats a straight and loses with a full house.
Fold – No ir/Retirarse
Fold a hand instead of Go or Raise.
Four of a Kind – Poker
Four cards of the same rank.
Fourth street/Turn
In Hold'em and Omaha, the fourth community card.
Free card
When a player who has a draw can see the next card without having to call a bet, he is said to have obtained a free card.
Full House – Full
Play that gathers 3 cards of one value and two of another. For example: JJJ99.
Gutshot
When you have the possibility of making a straight but only one card works.
Heads up
A pot, a game or a tournament played between two players.
Kicker
The other card in our hand that has not been paired with one of the cards on the table. When we have A-K and the flop comes A-J-6, we have a pair of Aces with a K for kicker.
Late position
In ring games, the last two seats at the table.
Loose player
Player who goes to many hands and usually plays against the odds.
Maniac
Hyper-aggressive player, who raises in almost all hands and consequently tries a lot of bluffs.
Middle position
In ring games, seats six, seven and eight.
Muck
1). The pile of cards that the players have thrown.

No-limit poker
Poker mode in which you can bet on one hand all the money you have available.
Nuts
The best possible play at any given time in the hand.
Odds
Possibilities against an event occurring. For example, the odds of completing an open straight on the last card are 5 against 1 (5: 1). That is, out of every 6 times we try it, we will get one.
Offsuit
Hole cards that are not of the same suit. They are less desirable because the probability of completing color is lower.
Open ended straight
A ladder that can be completed at both ends. For example, 10-J-Q-K does well both a 9 and an Ace.
Outs (Occasions, opportunities)
Number of cards a player does well to improve his hand. For example, when you have an Open Straight, the number of Outs is 8.
Overcard
In Hold'em, having a card in your hand that is higher than any of the community cards.
Play money
Online poker rooms often offer the ability to play for play money.
Pocket cards/Hole cards
The cards that are dealt to a player at the beginning of the hand and that only he can see.
Pot
The money or chips that have been wagered on a hand at a given time.
Pot-limit poker
Poker mode in which the maximum bet allowed is the total amount of the Jackpot at the time the bet is made.
Pre-flop
In Hold'em and Omaha, the betting round that occurs after players have received their two hole cards.
Rainbow
When three cards of different suits come out on the flop.
Raise
Increase the bets by adding another bet to the pot.
Rake
Money that the casino takes from each pot that is played. Online poker rooms usually charge 4-5%.
Reraise
After a player has raised, increase the bets by adding an additional bet to the pot.
River
See Fifth Street.
Runner-runner
Complete the play using the last two cards, Turn and River. Example: you beat me by linking a runner-runner ladder.
Ring game
Game in which 9 or 10 players take part.
Set

Game involving 3 to 5 players.
Showdown
Time when the players involved in a hand must show the cards to see who is the winner.
Slowplay
Slowplay is done when you have a good play and do not bet strongly, with the aim that other players stay in the hand and can bind a less good play than ours or try a bluff, then raise them and win a money that would not have been obtained from betting hard from the start.
Slowroll
Undecorate action that consists of delaying in showing the cards, or in making a Call, when he has a better move than the opponent, thus making him believe that he has won the hand.
Small bet
In Hold'em, the amount that is wagered in the first two betting rounds.
Small blind
Compulsory bet that the player sitting to the left of the Dealer must make in each hand. It also refers to the position that player occupies at the table.
Stack
The number of chips a player has on the table.
Straight
Five cards of consecutive value.
Straight Flush
Five cards of consecutive value of the same suit.
Suit
The English deck has four suits: spades, clubs, hearts, and diamonds.
Suited
Two hole cards of the same suit, such as A ♠ 9 ♠ or Q ♦ J ♦. They are desirable because they have a greater chance of forming color.
Tell
Clue that a player offers involuntarily and inadvertently about the move he has or what his next move will be.
Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same rank.
Tight player
Player who goes to few hands. You usually wait for a good play to bet.
Tilt
A player goes on tilt when he loses control due to having a Bad Beat, or a losing streak, or being insulted by another player, etc. In the state of tilt the player worsens his game and thus increases his chances of losing a large sum.
Tournament
Competition in which a Buy-in must be paid to participate. All players start the tournament with the same amount of chips and are eliminated when they run out of chips. The player who manages to accumulate all the chips wins. Prizes are distributed among the finalists in relation to their final ranking.
Trips
Three of a kind made up of one of the hole cards and two of the community cards.
Turn
