NHL ice hockey a calculated sport
His father and grandfather played ice hockey for the United States at the Olympics. Now young Jimmy Snuggerud is in the Youth Olympics as he strives to make it to the NHL like his father Dave. And he says he wants to play hockey until he's 80!
Two way center with good size and skating. He's the captain of the American team at the YOG. He works hard, and does have some skill. I like his hockey IQ, as well. The question will probably be his offense. How much will it develop? Right now, I don't see anything too high-end offensively, but he can keep up with skill players. His father played in the NHL and at the Olympics.
I think he's very overshadowed, and is the type of player who could be a big star on a junior team. I think his offensive game is pretty underrated. He shoots the puck well and can make some high-end passes. I think there is realistic second line upside.
He lacks flash. He's not going to make that many dangles, and his skating is probably a little weak, but there's offensive upside there. And his defensive game is pretty good. He's particularly good at reading plays, and using his stick to break up plays. If he's not good enough offensively for an NHL second or third line, I think he has the defensive game to play on a fourth line and be a 4th line PK center.
I don't know about a draft range for next year. It's hard to pinpoint one for a guy whose good but not elite. Players of his caliber are usually picked around the late 2nd or early 3rd round, so that would be my early guess, but like with all players, that could go up or down so far out from a draft.
